Wouldn't it be great to cut electricity use ? We would see our electricity bill decline and have a bit more money in the bank.

An excellent way to start is to monitor electricity usage its the best way to start lowering the amount of household electricity we use. If you know how much electricity power you are using then you have a good place to start lowering electricity energy use.

A great tool for this is an electricity usage meter which will show the number of electricity kwh that you are using at any given moment. These clever meters can even be set up to show electric costs in pound, euros or dollars.

Once we have an idea what we are using, you can also get past usage from your old electricity bills and work out what the electricity cost is to you, you can start saving electricity and reduce your energy bills.

Why cut electricity consumption ?

One good reason is electricity costs a lot and it is not getting any cheaper.

You will also be helping greatly with carbon reduction by reducing carbon emissions Carbon is thought to be one of the main contributers to global warming, you may have heard this before.

Why does electricity cost so much?

We still get most of our electricity from the burning of fossil fuels. They are steadily going up in price and some people believe that oil may even run out. With our very old stock of power plants and the general way we transmit and create electricity, the whole process is around 30% efficient. So when you pay for your electricity 70% of what you are paying for has been lost through inefficiencies. That is just one of the reasons electricity is expensive.
